Teachers

Effective January 2009

 

Sheryl-lee Moroni (Principal) was a member of the W.A. Regional Ballet Company, a Cast Member of The Old Time Music Hall and Dirty Dick’s Elizabethan Feasting Hall, as well as a co-founder of The Dance Workshop.  Her early dance training was in all facets of Tap, Jazz, Acrobat ting, and Classical Ballet with both the CSTD & RAD Syllabus, as well as later in life attaining the Maestro de Baile (SDI) and Instructor de baile (SDS), which are teaching qualifications in Spanish Dance.  Sheryl-lee teaches both the Advanced Tap class, and the Grade 5 Spanish class on Saturday. 

 

Jann Zielinski-Thomas (Jan Tomas) is Co-Principal Spanish Dance Teacher / Artistic Director of Corazon Flamenco. Jann trained with Linley Wilson (RAD) of the Borovansky Ballet, and was a founding partner of the Dance Workshop (1980). Jann is a freelance specialist teacher/choreographer for Danza Espagna and Baile Flamenco. She has travelled extensively overseas, working in London with Robert Cohen’s Contemporary Dance Company, whilst also studying various dance styles on offer at Pineapple Dance, and the Dance Centre Studios, Covent Gardens. Jann has attained the Professor de Baile (SDI) as well as the Instructor de Baile  (SDS) and also heads the Flamenco company (Corazon Flamenco).

 

Heather Callendar is a freelance teacher, choreographer and former Ballet Mistress of the West Australian Ballet Company. She was a founding member & Director of Kinetikos Dance, and also teaches movement to actors.  Heather has been a member of the teaching faculty at The Dance Workshop for many years and currently teaches the level 2 and 3 Ballet.

 

Deanna Faust has trained in a variety of dance styles, however, Deanna’s passion lies with Flamenco, which has led her to study with Sheryl–Lee Moroni at the Dance Workshop, and with Laura Uhe for two years in Melbourne. Most recently she has travelled to Spain where Deanna studied extensively at Flamenco Studios in Madrid, Jerez and Granada. Deanna teaches the Advanced Flamenco class and a basic Spanish dance class on Saturday.

 

Natalie Saint  She began attending Bollywood classes when they commenced in 2005, which lead to performance opportunities and as a result of her obvious talent in this area commenced teaching in this field.

 

Ellie Haines   has been training in the areas of Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Hip Hop for the last 16 years, completing all of her CSTD theatrical and tap examinations.  Ellie has taught at various dance and high schools around Perth and has performed at a variety of corporate functions with tribute acts, such as Cher, Elvis, Kylie and Robbie Williams.  Ellie teaches the basic Hip hop class on Fridays and achieved a place in the Top 60 for Australia’s “So You Think You Can Dance”.

 

Lynn Martlew commenced her Ballet training with Madame’s Gundi Ferris and the late Kira Bousloff.  She has achieved the highest level of training in Classical Ballet and Spanish dance, gaining her Ceccehetti, Russian (Borovansky) and Spanish (SDI & SDS) Advanced exams.

She was a member of the W.A. Youth Dance Company and was a graduate from the W.A. Academy of Performing Arts, where she was awarded the Robert Finlay Dance Award.

Lynn’s professional dance career spans over 20 years.  In 1985 she was a founding member of  the Perth based Danza Viva Spanish Dance Company and has studied in London, Madrid and South Africa.  She is the only Australian to have passed the Professora de BailePdeB & Maestro de BaileMdeB (SDI) and the Profesor de Baile Diploma –PdeB (SDS).  In 2002, Eloy Pericet presented her with a Teachers Diploma for Escuela de Baile-Pericet. (Madrid).   Lyn teaches the Advanced syllabus class.

 

Jayne Lee has been working on a professional level since the age of 16 and has appeared in numerous Perth and International shows.  She has worked in television, recording studios, sports entertainment, launches, promotions, cabarets, trade shows and stage productions.  Jayne has travelled extensively with production companies and has gained valuable experience in all aspects of theatre arts, including directing and producing shows.  She has spent 11 years in the UK choreographing, teaching and working and returns to London annually to choreograph summer workshops and productions. She has worked with several respected international producers, and production companies.  Jane teaches the Intermediate Jazz and the Monday & Wednesday Hip Hop basic classes.

 

Karren Flint teaches the Basic Hip Hop classes Thursday 8.15pm and Saturday , as well as the Intermediate Hip Hop Monday and the Popping class on Friday.   She is also a member of the “Illegal Moves” crew and her “bgirl name is Flintroc”.

 

Ashanti Suriyam teaches the 7 pm Basic Hip Hop & Elementary Jazz classes on Thursdays and is also the teacher for our Sunday Stiletto Class. Ashanti has trained extensively in a variety of dance styles, including Flamenco & Tap.

 

Vivienne Stodel teaches the Classical Ballet Level 1 class on Tuesday and Thursday. She has over 20 years teaching experience.

 

Leanne Driel has recently joined the teaching faculty and is teaching the Basic, Elementary &  Intermediate tap classes as well as the 5.45 pm Wednesday Hip Hop class.

 

Suzannah Morris professionally  trained in London at Laine Theatre Arts where she graduated with her Diploma in Musical Theatre and ISTD Teaching Associates in Modern and Tap Dance. She professionally performed for 8 years in various Musicals, Fashion and Trade shows, Production Tours, Backing Dancing and Videos around Europe and America. She turned her focus to Teaching and Choreographing in London and Assisted for a Choreographer in major Hair and Fashion shows. Now in Perth she is continuing her love for dance and is teaching and choreographing throughout different schools. Suze currently teaches the Tuesday basic Jazz class.

 

Rita Ugandan born, Rita has her dance roots in African dancing, which has been incorporated into the growing trends of Hip Hop and Jamaican Dancehall.

 

Caroline Milne teaches the Basic Contemporary Dance class on Wednesday.

 

Katrina Davis teaches the Intermediate level Contemporary dance class on Tuesday.

 

Holly Meegan teaches the Singing For Fun class Saturday.
